Paracosmic Equine Artist
Beth Stilgoe
"Eponas Portrait", Oil on Board
Beth is a Norfolk-based Artist whose practice focuses on the horse and its versatility as a creative icon, utilizing various creative mediums, including oils, print, drawing, and installation, as a form of intimate catharsis.
Born and raised in a small village outside Dereham, Norfolk, Beth has been fascinated by the icon of the horse since childhood, and it's presence has remained constant through her career, including studying for a BA and MA at the Norwich University of the Arts.
Combining past trauma and Paracosmic immersion (a form of childhood immersive world building play), her work becomes an example of self-representation and emotional healing. This personal methodology often results in works depicting complex ideologies juxtaposed with whimsical undertones.
During her Master's Course at NUA, Beth founded the local artist collective EAST 22, successfully executing multiple exhibitions of various themes throughout the county. She continues to exhibit across the country, including the Royal Norfolk Show and the Royal Scottish Academy.
"The object isn't to make art, it's to be in that wonderful state which makes art inevitable"
- Robert Henri
